Description

The Flourishing Towns Action Plan is a 10-year plan for the renewal and upgrade of the public spaces within the municipality’s Activity Centres. It provides guidance for placemaking and urban design upgrades which is the responsibility of a range of teams/departments. Although the project’s primary objective wasn’t to reduce silos between teams it has achieved this as a by-product of shared vision on the project.

Who

A lead project manager oversaw the project and engaged with teams across the organisation, the executive team and Council.

How

The plan was developed over a 12-month period and included formalised working groups as well as less formalised communication between departments that helped to connect teams and departments across the Council. The executive team and Council reviewed the drafts of the Flourishing Towns Action Plan and supported the involvement of their services units in participating in this project.

Outcome

Although the Action Plan had important outcomes such as providing a clear direction for prioritising projects, with regards to breaking down silos the project has improved collaboration regarding the priority projects and improved communication between Service Units regarding projects.
